ELECTION 2026 SEES BIG CHANGE FOR MIDDLETOWN

MIDDLETOWN, RI (NOVEMBER 3, 2026) – The unofficial results of Election 2026 are in it looks like Middletown is welcoming a new era of leadership on the Town Council.

On Wednesday morning, incumbent Dennis B. Turano was the top vote getter for one of the seven seats on the council. He was followed by newcomers Leon Amarant and Michael Flynn, with incumbent Chris Logan in fourth.

Former Councilwoman Terri Flynn was fifth according to the preliminary numbers, with some mail ballots yet to be counted. If the numbers hold, it’s believed Michael and Terri Flynn will be the first husband-wife team ever to serve on the Middletown council.

Incumbent Charles R. Roberts placed sixth, with newcomer Christopher Rowe seventh, 13 votes in front of 2024-2026 council President Paul Rodrigues, who finished outside the top seven along with former Councilman Rick Lombardi, incumbent Barbara VonVillas and former Councilman Antone Viveiros.

On the School Committee side, the unofficial numbers had incumbents Theresa Spengler first, Wendy Heaney second and Gregory Huet third. The trio of incumbents were vying for one of the three open seats on the school board. Each position has a new four-year term.

The Middletown Town Council and School Committee races are nonpartisan. There were no local ballot questions in Middletown during Election 2026.

Election Day 2026 Vote Here Full Polling Stations In Gaudet Middle School Gymnasium

Election Day 2026 Walking Into The High School Cafetorium To Vote

On Tuesday, poll workers reported strong and steady turnout throughout the day across the community.

Just before lunchtime, every polling station in the Gaudet Middle School gymnasium was filled, with a handful of people waiting to complete their ballots.

The same was true at the other polling sites across the community, with Town Clerk Wendy JW Marshall expressing appreciation

“We’re very appreciative to everyone who stepped up and helped over the last several months,” Marshall said. “A lot of work goes into each election and without their efforts and energy, none of this would be possible. Thanks to the Board of Canvassers, our poll workers, public works, police and everyone else who’s involved.”

Town Administrator Shawn agreed, saying a smooth, safe election was one of the most  fundamental roles of local government.

“I want to personally thank Wendy and (Deputy Town Clerk) Karin (Clancey) and their outstanding team for another smooth election,” Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown said. “They do so much preparing for each election, more than anyone would ever see, from all the calls and coordination months ahead of time to setting up the polls and staying on top of everything.

“On behalf of the Town of Middletown, I also want to thank to the Board of Canvassers, all of our poll workers and everyone who helped make Election Day a success  — from Public Works employees who set up and break down the polling locations, to our police officers who staffed the polls and transport important election materials, and everyone else who contributed throughout the day.

“Our poll workers play an especially important role. They are on the front lines of the democratic process, helping ensure that every voter is treated fairly, every vote is handled properly, and the public can have confidence in the integrity of the election. It truly is a team effort, and we appreciate everyone who played a part.”
