Washington Secretary of State encourages Washingtonians to participate in National Voter Registration Day
OLYMPIA — On Sept. 15, Secretary of State Steve Hobbs and the Office of the Secretary of State encourage Washingtonians to register to vote or update their voter registration in celebration of National Voter Registration Day.
National Voter Registration Day is a day dedicated to reminding eligible voters to register to vote ahead of the Nov. 3 General Election. The Office is also encouraging registered voters to make sure their voter registration is up to date and sign up for ballot status text notifications. Voters can sign up for text message notifications about their ballot online at VoteWA.gov or by texting “VOTE” to 868392.
“Voting is one of the most direct ways you can make your voice heard, and it starts with being registered and ready to vote,” Secretary Hobbs said. “Whether you’re registering for the first time or have been voting for years, today is a great reminder to take a few minutes and check your registration, make sure your information is current, and be ready to participate in the midterms.”
Washington voters should update their voter registration every time they move to a new address or if their name changes. Updating voter registration information helps county elections offices ensure that ballots are mailed to voters at their correct address.
Eligible Washingtonians have several options to register to vote or update their registration. Voters can register or update their information online at VoteWA.gov, in person at a county elections office, or by mailing a completed voter registration form to a county elections office. For the Nov. 3 General Election, online and mailed registrations must be received by Monday, Oct. 26. After that deadline, eligible Washingtonians can still register or update their information in person at a county elections office or voting center until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
